ALFA International College was founded in 1998.

Yes, ALFA’s diplomas are recognized and fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The ALFA Diploma is accepted by the industry and by most universities in Australia, New Zealand, and United Kingdom. ALFA students can apply to enter any university of their choice in these countries through credit transfer arrangements.

We have been awarded with a 5-STAR recognition.

Our student population is about 300 students.

At ALFA, we maintain a small student ratio per class. The average number of students to a class is about 15 to 18 students due to the nature of its courses. This is because for design courses, more personalised attention and greater lecturer-student interaction is needed for the student to excel. Smaller classes, ensuring personalised attention is one of ALFA’s main strengths – a top reason why students chose ALFA.

At ALFA, we focus on a close-knit supportive culture. Our student activities are not all ‘play’, but also encourage the development of soft skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership and character building.

Loan disbursements are different according to the type of institutions, level of studies and courses, depending on the parent’s monthly income. The maximum loan for Diploma level study is RM20, 000.00. Administration cost of 1% per annum will be charged with effect from 6 August 2008. The student will get a maximum loan payment of RM 8,000 per year. The Admin Department of ALFA College will guide the students on how to apply for the loan online. The loan payment is credited directly to the student’s account. The first loan payment is released only after the completed agreement is received by PTPTN. Subsequent payments will be made after PTPTN receives confirmation from the IPT that the student is successful in continuing studies and has obtained a GPA of 2.0 and above.

You can also apply for MARA loan. WHAT IS MARA LOAN?

1. MARA loan is a study loan for all Bumiputra students with minimum requirement of 5 Credits in SPM examination (BM and 2 other subjects). English subject is compulsory pass. 2. If either one of the parent is Muslim/Bumiputra, the student is eligible to apply for MARA Study Loan. 3. Parent’s salary for a year should not exceed RM80, 000.00 combined. 4. Deadline for application submission is 2 weeks from the 1st day of class. 5. Failing to comply after 2 weeks will result in student being barred from class.

Yes. The Student Services Department will provide students with list of options and employment opportunities.

The student registrar will advise and assist students in their applications to the university of their choice. ALFA also work with education placement centres (eg. JM Education Counselling Centre) in helping students to seek for professional advice and in application for further studies overseas.

For diplomas, we have Diploma in Architecture, Diploma in Interior Architecture, Diploma in Graphic Design, Diploma in Multimedia Design, Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Diploma in Business Administration, and Higher Diploma in Business Administration under BTEC. For certificate, we have Certificate in Art and Design. We are also introducing Diploma in Accountancy soon

All our programmes are doing very well with student population spread evenly among all our courses.

The student will still need to meet the entry requirements to graduate with a diploma. The student must re-take the SPM examination during July as an independent student to fulfil the minimum requirement of having 3 credits.

Another option is for the student to take the Certificate in Art & Design. The duration is 1 ½ years and entry requirement is minimum of 1 credit.

For design courses, technical skills and a good portfolio is important. A Diploma equips you with the practical and technical skills to get and do the job. In 2 ½ years you can start working, rather than wait for 4 years if you do a degree. Most degree courses are more conceptual.

A-levels have minimum related subjects to the course. Thus, students do not have the advantage of building a strong foundation in the relevant course eg. Architecture.

Taking a foundation programme is for continuing to a degree. With just a foundation, you cannot get a job yet, plus most foundation programmes offer only basic/general knowledge about design and arts. In comparison, ALFA’s year one subjects are more comprehensive and relates directly to your chosen major.

For some courses for example Business or Accountancy, Degree is preferred over Diploma. Thus, the salary of a Business/Accountancy Degree Holder may usually be higher. Although at times the years of experience and attitude of the applicant play an important role as well in securing a job. ALFA graduates are ready to enter into the job market because ALFA’s diploma courses are skill-based and practical. The salary commanded by an ALFA diploma graduate maybe competitive with a degree holder because ALFA’s industry-relevant courses prepare graduates for the job market. Furthermore, in the design field, the salary package depends very much on the strength of the student work/‘portfolio’. A good design student , even though only a diploma holder, may possibly earn more than a degree holder, based on his/her excellent ‘portfolio’ and skill-based college education.

ALFA has made its pricing affordable and available, even to the medium market. Some colleges are marketing to the up-market. Both are giving quality education approved by MQA. ALFA’s strength lies in preparing its graduates for the job market. We get satisfaction when we are able to nurture graduates from even the lower to medium class to achieve their dreams and do well in their career.

We do not have part time courses for the moment.

No, short courses are professional enhancement programmes for individuals who wish to acquire new skills and knowledge. Short courses are usually for a period of 16 to 28 hours per course, depending on the course contents. A certificate of attendance will be presented.

Industrial attachment is internship or practical training a company in the related field. ALFA courses are skill-based and 75% practical or hands on. Industrial attachment is important to gain real industrial experience and for marketability of ALFA graduates. The industrial attachment is for a period of 3 months. Students are required to complete the practical training in order to get the diploma certification.

The purpose of the internship is to gain confidence, valuable work experience and exposure in a real working environment – when you complete the internship you’ll be more competitive than other graduates. ALFA Alumni who has gone through the internship, said that it gave them the edge in getting the job and outperform their peers. So an internship it’s not about getting paid. Most companies will give an allowance of between RM300 to RM700 to offset travel and other expenses.

ALFA College will be monitoring the practical training to ensure valuable learning & exposure.
